A human body is a magical creation of God. It has the ability to heal itself.

Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old system of natural healing which has its origins in the Vedic culture of India. It has gifted the mankind with a plethora of preventive & healing therapies along with various techniques of purification & healing.

Ostensibly, every human body is an exclusive phenomenon of cosmic consciousness that is manifested through the five basic elements – Ether, Air, Fire, Water & Earth.

Panchakarma is one legendary branch of Ayurveda.

Panchakarma emanates from Sanskrit literature where ‘Pancha’ means ‘five’ & ‘karma’ means ‘treatment’. This method of healing is a pillar on which most of the Ayurvedic healing methods stand. It is a purification process that involves 5 methods to balance the doshas in your body & rejuvenate it.

Why must you undergo Panchakarma treatment?

Ayurveda recommends this five-fold therapy as a seasonal treatment for maintaining mental & physical hygiene and balance.

It is a soothing experience that is tailored to individual requirements like age, Ayurvedic constitutional type, doshic imbalances, immune status, digestive strength, etc. It is recommended that you take an ayurveda panchakarma retreat every 6 months in order to keep your body functioning optimally. Pre Panchakarma Procedures:

• Oleation:

Oleation is a process of applying various homegrown Ayurvedic oils that matches the individual needs of the treatment – internally & externally, to facilitate the flow of medicinal ingredients into every cell of the body & loosen up the toxins stuck in the tissues.

• Fomentation:

Oleation treatment is followed by the fomentation treatment. The tissues that are made delicate by oleation treatment become flexible through fomentation therapy. The oleation process softens severe deep-rooted toxins, which get liquefied by fomentation & get flushed out of the body through sweat.

Five Panchakarma Therapies:

1. Vamana:

This is a vomiting process. It involves treating the body to internal & external oleation & fomentation therapies for a few days till the toxins liquefy in the body & gather upon the upper cavities of the body.

The patient is given an emetic medicine that enables vomiting & helps clearing the toxins from tissues. Vamana treatment is highly suggested for kapha – dominated conditions such as obesity, hyperacidity & asthma.

2. Virechana:

Virechana induces purgation of toxins through cleansing of bowels. In this treatment too, the patient is treated with internal & external oleation & fomentation treatments.

The patient is given a natural purgative to induce clearing of the guts that aid in purifying the body of toxins. Virechana treatment is fundamentally prescribed for pitta- dominated conditions such as jaundice, colitis, celiac infection etc.

3. Basti:

Basti is a unique treatment of Ayurveda which has an exceptional commitment to the therapeutic world. Basis the nature of disease, home grown decoctions, oils, ghee or milk is medicated into the rectum in order to cleanse it.

This treatment is called the mother of all Panchakarma treatments & is enormously powerful for overcoming vata – dominated conditions, such as piles, arthritis & constipation.

4. Nasya:

Nasya is an extremely effective treatment for clearing the head region. The body is prepared for Nasya by performing a delicate massage & fomentation on the head & shoulder areas. Following this, nasal drops are regulated in both the nostrils.

This ensures a total clearance of the head area by diminishing various kinds of cerebral pain, headache, sleep disorders, hair issues, neurological disorders, sinusitis, chronic rhinitis & respiratory ailments.

5. Raktamokshana:

Raktamokshana is a blood cleaning treatment which cures diseases caused by impure blood. It can be performed in a particular area or on the entire body. It works best in treating various skin infections, such as psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema, pigmentation etc.
